Mets Call-Up Brett Baty Grew Up With Jets Rookie Garrett Wilson (Photo)

The Mets announced on Thursday that prospect Brett Baty was called up and is joining the team in Atlanta this week.

Shortly after this announcement, a photo of Baty with Jets rookie Garrett Wilson posing with each other at a youth football camp from years ago recirculated on social media.

The two 22-year-olds played football with each other back in Texas when they were growing up. Now, they both represent professional New York teams in their respective sports.

Wilson, the Ohio State graduate, was selected No. 10 overall by the Jets in this year’s NFL draft. The wide receiver made his professional debut during the Jets’ preseason game on Friday, Aug. 12. He finished with two receptions for 25 yards.

Baty, who is regarded as the Mets’ top two prospect according to MLB, joined the team on Tuesday, although he was not on the starting roster vs. the Braves. The third baseman was selected No. 12 overall in the 2019 MLB draft.
