LeBron James Reacts to Oregon Being Named Frontrunner for Bronny

As Bronny James prepares to start his senior season at Sierra Canyon and determine where he plays the next chapter of his basketball career, LeBron James made it clear that he plans to let his eldest son announce his future plans.

On Tuesday, On3.com’s Jamie Shaw reported that Oregon is the leader in a group of three schools—Ohio State and USC—that is “actively recruiting” the four-star prospect. Other programs like UCLA and Michigan are also recruiting Bronny.

“He hasn’t taken 1 visit yet and has only had a few calls with coaches and universities. When Bronny makes his choice you’ll hear it from him,” LeBron tweeted.

The Ducks reportedly sit at No. 1 on the list to land Bronny due to the program’s relationship with Nike and LeBron’s lifetime contract with Nike. The company’s co-founder, Phil Knight, attended Oregon and has kept a close relationship with the program.

Oregon coach Dana Altman also landed two five-star recruits last month in forwards Mookie Cook and Kwame Evans. Cook and Bronny share a relationship with each other that stems back to their middle school days as teammates playing on the travel team North Coast Blue Chips.

Whichever school Bronny chooses, it is important to note that he can become eligible for the NBA draft in 2024. LeBron has openly announced that he wants to play at least one year in the NBA with Bronny.

Currently, Bronny is making headlines while playing overseas on the California Basketball Club’s European tour with his 15-year-old brother, Bryce.
