Trae Young Reacts to the Hawks’ Trade for Dejounte Murray

The Hawks made a big splash Wednesday by acquiring All-Star guard Dejounte Murray from the Spurs for Danilo Gallinari, three first-round picks and a future pick swap. The move will pair Murray with Trae Young in the backcourt, and Young is already excited about the opportunity.

Young took to Twitter to share his excitement about playing with Murray for at least the next two seasons.

“Let’s get busy my Brotha,” he said.

Murray joins Atlanta after a career year with San Antonio, having averaged 21.1 points, 9.2 assists, 8.3 rebounds and a league-leading 2.0 steals per game while earning his first All-Star Game selection. His strong perimeter defense and size is a good fit next to Young’s shooting and playmaking abilities.

The Hawks took a step back last season after making it to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2021, losing to the Heat in the first round of the playoffs in five games. However, Young had a better season statistically, with over 28 points and nine assists per game.

If those two can keep up this level of play together, they’d form one of the best backcourt duos in the league.
